First Strike Gold and Silver coins refers to the first issue of any gold or silver coin from the mint. Normally the coins are proof coins or uncirculated coins in mint conditions. The term First Strike has in 2008 been trade market by PCGS so other coin grading companies use the term early release coins. Normally the terms is use for coins that has come from the mint in the first 30 days of a coin being released. So if your package from the mint has a date stamp on it you could send it in to be grade as a First strike coin.  First strike coins has been getting a big premium on price at auction sites like E-bay and Heritage auctions, so investment in these coins has been a good business for many collectors recently.

First strike gold coins are a great buy and good for a coin collector to beef up his collection. Their value is usually well known and if they are proof or uncirculated or mint condition and remain that way then, in all likelihood, their value will only increase over time.

The First Strike designation by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) first appeared in 2005, and is strictly limited to the first coins minted in each series. First strike gold coins are available in plentiful supply through the Internet at reputable dealers as well as at auction or from your local coin dealer.

This web site will try and keep up with the population numbers in each grade of the first strike coins coming from PCGS and NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) the two most well known grading companies.
